Need a new structure with a long lifespan?
Build with lightweight, corrosion resistant Strongwell FRPThis beach access ramp and platforms were installed at a beachfront condominium in Port Aransas, TX to replace the failing pressure treated lumber structures previously chosen. Strongwell FRP has decades of testing proving fiberglass products are unmatched when it comes to weatherability and corrosion resistance.
Build America Buy America Act (BABAA)
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was signed into law on November 15, 2021. The IIJA includes the Build America, Buy America Act (BABAA). BABAA (also referred to as BABA) requirements for iron, steel, manufactured products, and construction material bolster domestic manufacturing, build more resilient supply chains, and support good-paying American jobs.
All products of Strongwell Corporation manufactured by our U.S. facilities, meet the Buy America Preference requirements of the Build America, Buy America Act (BABAA) and qualify as “Manufactured Goods” according to the Act.
HOW FRP COMPARES
to Traditional Materials

Installed Cost
Because installation of Strongwell FRP is much simpler than steel, structures built using Strongwell’s pultruded products can cost as much as 15% less than carbon steel, 30% less than galvanized steel, and as much as 50% less than stainless steel.

Strength-to-Weight
Pound-for-pound, EXTREN® pultruded fiberglass structural shapes are stronger than steel in the lengthwise direction. Strongwell FRP weighs up to 75% less than steel and 30% less than aluminum – ideal when weight and performance counts.

Easy Installation
FRP costs on average 20% less than steel to install with less down time, less equipment, and less specialized labor. Avoid costly specialized labor and heavy equipment, and speed the construction process by using Strongwell pultruded structural products.

Transparency
Several of Strongwell’s pultruded products are L.A.R.R. certified for RF transparent screening and enclosures. Even in low temperature settings, pultruded fiberglass remains a poor electrical and thermal conductor, and offers high dielectric capabilities.

Maintenance Free
Strongwell FRP is durable and impact resistant. It will not dent or deform like metals. Resists rot and corrosion, eliminating the need for constant maintenance. This combination of performance and durability offers the ideal solution in numerous applications.
SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE
for Municipalities
Railing & Fencing Systems
Whether it’s safety guardrail for a water/wastewater facility or an architectural fencing system for an aquatics center, we make it all.
Grating
Fiberglass grating panels are a strong, lightweight, low maintenance replacement for metallic grates. Available in a wide variety of thicknesses, panel sizes, colors, and resin systems.
Structural Shapes & Plate
Strongwell’s line of structural shapes & plate is called EXTREN®, which consists of more than 100 different fiberglass shapes. EXTREN® structural shapes have been produced since 1962, and are designed to provide an excellent combination of mechanical properties, electrical properties, and weather resistance.
Fabricated Structures
Strongwell has a substantial capability to add value to pultruded parts including the fabrication and shop assembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies and entire shop-built structures.
Bridge Components
Strongwell is actively involved in the advancement of FRP technology for civil infrastructure applications. These efforts include the research and development of new FRP products as well as involvement with ASCE, AASHTO, ASTM, FHWA and NIST in the establishment of engineering and performance standards.
Decking & Planking
Strongwell offers multiple options for decking and planking, depending on the desired surface type, installation location, and purpose. Applications include: pedestrian walkways, dock surfacing, odor control covers, roofing walkways, concrete forming systems, and cellular wall panels.
Containment Systems
Originally developed for American Electric Power, Strongwell’s COMPOSOLITE® Secondary Containment System is ideal for use in any application requiring secure containment of liquid or solid materials.
Ladders & Cages
Fiberglass ladder and ladder cage systems have been in use since the 1950’s in chemical plants and other corrosive environments. Even in complete immersion applications, fiberglass has outlasted aluminum and steel and required little or no maintenance.
Baffle Panels
Strongwell’s lightweight, high strength fiberglass baffle panels are ideal for underwater flow control applications. These panels have a longer life cycle than wood, concrete, or steel baffle panels which are subject to rot or corrosion, and are, therefore, more cost effective than those alternatives.
Structural Building Panels
Strongwell’s structural building panels include COMPOSOLITE®, which is an advanced system suitable for major load bearing structural applications, and DURASHIELD®, which is a tonge-and-groove panel comprised of a pultruded skin over a foam core and is also offered with a hollow core.
Ballistic & Storm Panels
Strongwell’s HS Armor and HS Storm fiberglass panels are designed for ballistics and other high impact resistance. HS Armor can be produced to UL 752 requirements for Levels 1-8. HS Storm can absorb numerous impacts from flying debris, greatly outperforming commonly used materials.
Structural Reinforcements
Strongwell offers structural reinforcement options for bridge decks and other concrete structures that need reinforcing. GRIDFORM™ is a concrete reinforcing system with integral stay-in-place form for vehicular bridge decks. SAFSTRIP® is a composite strip that improves the strength of an existing structural member when mechanically fastened to the structure.
Stair Tread Covers
DURATREAD™ molded fiberglass stair tread covers provide an easy, cost-effective way to increase the safety of stairways. The covers feature a gritted surface and are intended for installation over concrete, metal or wood steps and for over fiberglass stair treads.
Studs & Nuts
FIBREBOLT® fiberglass studs and nuts are ideal for applications requiring mechanical fasteners that must be non-corrosive, low in conductivity and/or transparent to electromagnetic waves. FIBREBOLT® studs are machined from pultruded fiberglass vinyl ester rods. The hex shaped nut is thermoplastic. They are easily assembled with a standard six point socket wrench.
RECENT CASE STUDIES
from Municipalities

All for Clarification
A wastewater treatment facility originally built in 1988 recently upgraded its operational clarification capacity to reduce odor emission. Located in Stewartville, Minnesota, the facility took part in a $750,000 overall improvement plan. One part of the master improvement plan required the use of flat clarifier covers to control odor emissions and debris entry into the clarification process.

Baffle Panels Used to Upgrade Retention Basins
In municipal and industrial wastewater systems, baffle panels are highly effective and provide significant benefits over concrete, wood, and steel in aeration chambers, contact chambers, and retention basins. In addition to better gain yields in underwater flow control, corrosion and ultraviolet resistance is much improved over the traditional material options.
