STRONGRAIL®
Outweathers
Steel, Aluminum, PVC, & More
ABOVE: Recently, three miles of metallic architectural fencing had to be replaced due to the damaging effects from exposure to ultraviolet light, saltwater spray and winds from the Pacific Ocean. Within eight years, the original metallic fencing had oxidized, becoming an eyesore for guests and a concern for maintenance personnel. As the owners reviewed options, they determined that a durable, noncorrosive fence would best serve the needs of the Martin Resorts facility and its guests. Strongwell’s STRONGRAIL® architectural handrail and fencing system was recommended due to its ease of installation, fabrication, color options, corrosion resistance, durability, and Strongwell’s reputation in the market. In coastal and marine installations the durability of STRONGRAIL is expected to extend beyond multiple lifecycles of aluminum, steel, or wood fencing, furthering the return on investment.
WAYS FRP COMPARES
to Traditional Materials
Corrosion Resistant
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites offer resistance to a broad range of chemicals and harsh environments. Strongwell offers a full corrosion resistance guide to ensure the performance of its products in some of the the toughest conditions.
Maintenance Free
Strongwell FRP is durable and impact resistant. It will not dent or deform like metals. Resists rot and corrosion, eliminating the need for constant maintenance. This combination of performance and durability offers the ideal solution in numerous applications.
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio
Pound-for-pound, EXTREN® pultruded fiberglass structural shapes are stronger than steel in the lengthwise direction. Strongwell FRP weighs up to 75% less than steel and 30% less than aluminum – ideal when weight and performance counts.

Low Lifecycle Cost
Since FRP is corrosion resistant, it will last much longer than other materials. The cost may be more up-front, but FRP will need to be replaced much less with less frequent maintenance. This translates to lower labor costs and less down time.
Low Electrical & Thermal Conductivity
Even in low temperature settings, pultruded fiberglass remains a poor electrical and thermal conductor, and offers high dielectric capabilities.
EMI & RFI Transparent
EXTREN®, along with several other of Strongwell’s pultruded products, have been issued a TER on RF Panel Rooftop Enclosure System, which is approved by LADBS in place of the L.A.R.R.
PRODUCTS AVAILABLE
for Landscape Applications
STRONGDEK® Ultra High Performance Composite Decking System
A pultruded FRP plank and a snap-on hybrid composite top cap make STRONGDEK® a truly unique decking system that combines high strength, rigidity, and integrated fastener grooves with a non-slip surface, UV resistance, and aesthetic beauty.
DURADEK®/DURAGRID® Pultruded Grating
Fiberglass grating panels are a strong, lightweight, low maintenance replacement for metallic grates and wood decking. Available in a wide variety of thicknesses, panel sizes, colors, and resin systems.
Architectural Handrail and Fencing
STRONGRAIL® and custom handrail and fencing systems are strong, attractive, and withstand even corrosive salt-water environments with ease.
Pedestrian Bridges
Over the years, structural FRP products have become more prevalently used by the engineering community in the design of new and refurbishment builds of pedestrian bridges. Basis of design, life cycle analyses, and engineering resources have shown that composites are a cost effective and durable choice for the pedestrian bridge market.
Structural Building Panels
Strongwell’s insulated and non-insulated structural building panels make effective lightweight rooftop cellular enclosures, chemical and electrical storage buildings, containment systems, odor control covers, and cladding.
Fabricated Structures
Strongwell has a substantial capability to fabricate and assemble parts, components, sub-assemblies, and entire shop-built structures.
FIBREBOLT® Fiberglass Studs and Nuts
SAFPLANK® Interlocking Decking System
Used here as a trail bridge walking surface, SAFPLANK® is a versatile system that interlocks for a continuous smooth or gritted surface.
DURAGRATE® Molded Grating
Light weight, high strength, resistance to corrosion, and ease of fabrication on site make DURAGRATE® ideal for a variety of applications such as walkways, outdoor subflooring (as seen above), equipment screening, and sunshades.

CASE STUDIES
Replacement Seawall
A Florida residential beach community with 1,700 homes underwent a seawall replacement project to address failing marine infrastructure. To minimize construction costs, demolition, and handling costs, the community decided on a system that incorporated the old, corrosion-prone system into the new system. To complete this project, 32,000 linear feet of lightweight, high strength, UV-protected, rust-free FRP UltraComposite™ UC-30 was installed adjacent to the existing seawall, which was later fortified together with a concrete cap.
Apartment Complex Cabana, Pergola, Awning, and Flower Boxes
Known for a dynamic downtown and close proximity to the beach, San Diego, California, has undergone a housing revitalization designed to match its hip and trendy landscape. Aluminum was originally specified into the design for many of the facility’s large exterior living structures due to weight and on-site fabrication limitations. However, issues concerning corrosion and intense UV exposure arose.
