The World Leader in Pultrusion and Pultruded Fiberglass Structures & Shapes

HOW FRP COMPARES

to Traditional Materials

Installed Cost

Because installation of Strongwell FRP is much simpler than steel, structures built using Strongwell’s pultruded products can cost as much as 15% less than carbon steel, 30% less than galvanized steel, and as much as 50% less than stainless steel.

Strength-to-Weight

Pound-for-pound, EXTREN® pultruded fiberglass structural shapes are stronger than steel in the lengthwise direction. Strongwell FRP weighs up to 75% less than steel and 30% less than aluminum – ideal when weight and performance counts.

Easy Installation

FRP costs on average 20% less than steel to install with less down time, less equipment, and less specialized labor. Avoid costly specialized labor and heavy equipment, and speed the construction process by using Strongwell pultruded structural products.

Transparency

Several of Strongwell’s pultruded products are L.A.R.R. certified for RF transparent screening and enclosures. Even in low temperature settings, pultruded fiberglass remains a poor electrical and thermal conductor, and offers high dielectric capabilities.

Maintenance Free

Strongwell FRP is durable and impact resistant. It will not dent or deform like metals. Resists rot and corrosion, eliminating the need for constant maintenance. This combination of performance and durability offers the ideal solution in numerous applications.

Fabricated Structures

DURADEK®/DURAGRID® Pultruded Grating

Fiberglass grating panels are a strong, lightweight, low maintenance replacement for metallic grates. Available in a wide variety of thicknesses, panel sizes, colors, and resin systems.

Fabricated Structures

DURAGRID® Phenolic Pultruded Grating

Fiberglass grating panels are a strong, lightweight, low maintenance replacement for metallic grates. Available in a wide variety of thicknesses, panel sizes, colors, and resin systems.

Fabricated Structures

Stairtreads and Covers

Strongwell offers a variety of stair treads and stair tread covers to meet the specific requirements of your application. Treads can be molded or pultruded in multiple colors and configurations.

Fabricated Structures

SAFRAIL™ Industrial Railing System

SAFRAIL™ industrial fiberglass handrails are commercial railing systems for stair rails, platform/walkway handrails and guardrails.

Fabricated Structures

DURAGRATE® Molded Grating

Light weight, high strength, resistance to corrosion, and ease of fabrication on site make DURAGRATE® ideal for a variety of applications such as walkways, equipment screening, and sunshades (as seen above).

Fabricated Structures

SAFRAIL™ Ladders & Cages

SAFRAIL™ fiberglass ladders and ladder cages mounted on the sides of tanks and buildings are a common sight in a wide range of industries. Fiberglass ladder and ladder cage systems have been in use since the 1950’s in chemical plants and other corrosive environments. Even in complete immersion applications, fiberglass has outlasted aluminum and steel and required little or no maintenance.

Fabricated Structures

SAFPLANK® Interlocking Decking System

SAFPLANK® is a versatile system that interlocks for a continuous smooth surface. SAFPLANK® can be installed horizontally for decking and sunshades or vertically for windwalls.

Fabricated Structures

COMPOSOLITE® Structural Building Panels

COMPOSOLITE® Structural Building Panel system can be used in various roofing and cladding applications. The example above utilizes this system for windwalls.

Custom Pultrusions

Strongwell’s expertise in pultrusion design, engineering and manufacturing makes it possible to offer unique solutions to meet customers’ exact requirements. In-house drafting, FEA Analysis and 3D modeling capabilities, as well as an in-house engineering staff, provide key advantages when seeking to manufacture custom pultrusions.

Fabrication

In addition to its manufacturing capabilities, Strongwell offers full-scale fabrication of all of its products, from simple cut-to-length operations to full scale pre-assembly of its full line of products.

CASE STUDIES

from the Offshore Market

Composites Aid Next Generation Subsea Rock Installation Vessel

COMPOSOLITE® was outfitted throughout the mobile pipe tower due to its weight savings, particularly important in the lowering of the vessel’s center of gravity. This is crucial, as the vessel can also transform into two additional rock installation functions known as the fall pipe launch via side and tremie pipe distribution. Both of these require a slight shift of the tower to gain closer proximity access to offshore structures.

Durability Study: Decades Later: Still Better than New Steel

In 1979, over 10,000 square feet of DURAGRID® I-4000 1″ (formerly DURADEK®) pultruded grating was installed in lieu of steel grating in the well bays and adjacent areas on Shell’s offshore platform Ellen. The platform was destined for the Beta Field off the shore of southern California. Now, with over 40 years of use, the grating continues to show an excellent return on investment for current operators, Beta Offshore.
